Hangouts In the House

When Google tapped me to host a couple of happy hour wine "Hangouts" for conference attendees and Googlers, I initially had no idea what they were talking about. In fact, when it came time to do my first hangout (a discussion with Google event producers to prepare for the *real* hangouts, natch) I didn't even have the correct software installed on my Mac. Fast forward several weeks to the wrap up of the events, and I can happily say I not only know what the video conferencing technology is all about - I have also become schooled in the art of walking people through a wine tasting from "inside the wall," as my co-host and Zagat/Google maven Josh Strauss put it. Nice!

Here are a few shots from the two sessions, including me in a really conservative getup (see: money-stuffed top hat) for the Think Finance hangout (budget pairings w/ wine and pizza), the place setting for guests, my tasting "headquarters" for the events, view of the video screen through which I shared tasting tips, and some notes for the second Hangout, part of the Google Disruption conference (wine with disruptive pairings - Champagne and potato chips, pb&j with sparkling Shiraz, Moscato d'Asti with chocolate cake pops). If only I could do hangouts for all of my corporate tastings - I'd never have to leave home to share news of the good stuff far and wide. ;)
