It may sound obvious to put a girl in blue jeans in an ad for wine (like, helLO, this is an advertisement for youths, duh), and therefore not that interesting, but for some reason it works. Sacre Bleu's frankly young-looking model, along with product placement at the hip Miami music venue The Fillmore, support of charitable organization Rock the Cause and funny winemaking videos from French Gustave (it's always nice to have a Frenchie in the mix), put the brand at the top of the wine-marketing-to-Millennials heap. Haven't tasted the wine yet, but seeing as it's coming from France's promising Languedoc, my bet is it's not half bad.

So my big sister took me to see Madonna last night for my birthday. It's - ahem - a big one, and it's right around the corner. But I digress. Last night rocked, and here's why: Not long after we arrived at the Oakland arena, we stopped outside of our (nose bleed) section to fish out our tickets. As I reached for mine, a woman brushed by me and knocked my tall cup of water all over the floor right at the entrance to our section. Not wanting anyone to miss seeing Madonna on account of a broken neck, we called out for help from two hipster types standing nearby with "official-looking" passes around their necks. "We don't work for the venue" they shot back, and so we were on our own to mop up the mess until a kind woman who DID work for the venue showed up with a mop. As we made our way past these same two hipster-types on the way into our section, one of them followed us up to our seats and sat down right next to me. 
"Your seats kind of suck" he said matter-of-factly, to which we responded, "er...??" To which HE responded: "What would you say if I told you I could get you MUCH better seats?" after which he whipped out two tickets and thrust them into our hands. "Enjoy the show, I have to go get ready" was all he said before he disappeared into the crowd, leaving us to inspect our *new* tickets. Mine looked just like my nose bleed ticket, only instead of listing section 215, row 15, seat 18, it read section A, row 1, seat 1. 
My sister's said the same, but with seat 2. Bottom line: We didn't allow ourselves to believe it was true until - after heading down multiple flights of stairs and through the VIP section on the ground floor - the tickets REALLY TRULY granted us entry to the very first row of the entire venue, literally close enough to touch the stage.
There, tickets ran a cool $1,250 a pop, and everyone we quizzed around us reported paying full face value for theirs. Unaccountably, we had been hooked up by none other than one of Madonna's dancers, which we realized was the case just before the show when he ran out and gave us a hug and told us - once again - to enjoy the show. DID WE EVER. I hope you enjoy the pic - note Madge just above my pointer finger - along with this video put together by our ticket benefactor himself, who apparently doubles as - but of course - a video blogger as well as backup dancer.
Ant Boogie is my new Lucky Star!
PS: I guess there's something to be said for cleaning up after yourself.
PPS: I'm also partially convinced we got hooked up thanks to my favorite lucky sneakers. Woot!

As a spokesperson for the Wine Market Council I'm occasionally interviewed on all sorts of subjects, and this fall the queries turned - no doubt unsurprisingly - to the upcoming election. That's right, upcoming as in TOMORROW!!! (Sheesh, I've got to admit I'm pretty stressed about tomorrow, and am in fact contemplating something pretty dramatic if Obama doesn't get elected. Like maybe drowning my sorrows in oceans of White Zin.) No matter what tomorrow's outcome, you can get the goods on my election night food and wine suggestions in the article "Election Party Food and Wine" at SheKnows.com. It includes some interesting tidbits on wines Republicans prefer versus those Dems gravitate towards, along with pairings to spice up your election night viewing party. So even if the *%&! hits the fan come winner- (or loser-) time, at least you'll be well plied. Cheers to that.
